HBO Max India Launch 2026: Shows, Movies & Prices on JioHotstar

Americans pay $10.99 a month for HBO Max. As of yesterday, you can get the same thing on JioHotstar for ₹49.

That’s not a typo. That’s 95% cheaper. Game of Thrones, Succession, the entire Harry Potter film collection, DC movies, Friends — all of it, for less than your morning chai costs at Starbucks. HBO Max officially launched in India on April 15, 2026, and for the first time ever, the full catalogue is available in one place. Previously, HBO content was scattered across licensing deals — some shows here, some movies there, never the complete library.

But here’s the part nobody’s explaining clearly: ₹49 is NOT the total price. It’s an add-on. And what you actually end up paying depends entirely on which JioHotstar plan you’re already on.

HBO Max India Launch Price — Not ₹49, Not Even Close

That ₹49/month is an add-on that sits on top of your existing JioHotstar subscription. No JioHotstar plan? You need one first.

Plan Base Cost With HBO Max Resolution Devices Ads
Mobile ₹79/mo ₹128/mo 720p 1 Yes
Super ₹149/mo ₹198/mo 1080p 2 Yes
Premium ₹299/mo ₹348/mo 4K 4 No

Mobile is the cheapest way in if you’re watching solo on your phone. Super is the sweet spot for most people — cast to TV, watch with your roommate. Premium is the family setup.

Quick comparison: Netflix’s basic plan in India is ₹199. For ₹198 (JioHotstar Super + HBO Max), you get IPL, Hotstar originals, AND HBO’s entire library. That math is genuinely unfair to Netflix.

The pricing makes sense on paper. But pricing means nothing if the content doesn’t deliver — and the launch library is bigger than you think.

What You Can Actually Watch Right Now

The day-one catalogue reads like a “greatest hits of the last decade” list.

Series: Euphoria Season 3 (the big launch flagship), The Last of Us, The White Lotus, Succession, Game of Thrones, The Pitt, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Dune: Prophecy, Sex and the City. Plus comfort rewatches — Friends, The Big Bang Theory, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural, The Flash.

Films: All eight Harry Potter movies. The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The full DC Universe — Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Justice League. The broader Warner Bros. Pictures slate.

Content comes from five studios under one roof: HBO, Max Originals, Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. Television, and DC Studios. That’s not an add-on library. That’s a second streaming service hiding inside your first one.

And the launch catalogue isn’t even the real reason to get excited.

The 2026 Slate Is Where This Gets Ridiculous

Confirmed for later this year: House of the Dragon Season 3. DC Studios’ Lanterns. And the one that’ll break the internet — the Harry Potter TV series. Eight episodes. HBO Original. The most anticipated series adaptation since, honestly, Game of Thrones itself. Coming to a ₹49 add-on in India while Americans pay 22 times more for the same thing.

There’s also a wildcard nobody’s talking about — Paramount CEO David Ellison has plans to merge Paramount+ with HBO Max. If that deal goes through, this ₹49 add-on could eventually include Paramount’s entire library too.

WBD’s APAC President James Gibbons called India “one of the most vibrant streaming markets globally.” That’s corporate-speak for: JioHotstar has 390 million monthly active users, OTT penetration is still just 23-27% in Tier 2 cities and single digits in Tier 3, and the growth ceiling is massive. India was, in Gibbons’ own words from 2024, “the most challenged” Asian market for streaming. Apparently the fix was pricing it at fifty cents.

So — Is It Worth ₹49?

If you already have JioHotstar for IPL? Absolutely no-brainer. You’re adding an entire premium streaming library for the price of two cups of cutting chai. Looking for more to binge-watch? Here are the best Hindi web series worth your time right now.

If you don’t have JioHotstar? The ₹128/month combo (Mobile + HBO Max) undercuts Netflix while giving you more content and live cricket.

Americans pay $10.99. You pay ₹49. The entire HBO library, Warner Bros. films, DC Universe, a Harry Potter series on the horizon — all sitting inside an app 390 million people already have. The HBO Max India launch 2026 wasn’t even supposed to be a priority for WBD. Turns out, we got the best deal anyway.
