Go to Settings → Content Preferences → Your Algorithm. You’ll find sliders and toggles that let you customize what surfaces. Tired of random motivation quotes? Turn them down. Want more cricket content before IPL 2026 kicks off? Boost it.

Your DMs are hiding at least three features you’ve never touched.
Scheduled messages. Long-press the send button and you can schedule a DM for later. Birthday wish at midnight without staying up? Done.
Auto-translation. If someone messages you in a language you don’t speak, tap the message and hit “See Translation.” Works surprisingly well with Hindi, Tamil, Bengali — not perfect, but functional enough for a conversation.
Pinned chats. Long-press any conversation, tap Pin. Your top 3 chats stay at the top no matter how many meme pages DM you. This one’s been around for a while, but statistically? Most people haven’t pinned a single chat.
Now for the features that sound fake but aren’t.
Trial Reels, 20-Minute Videos, and 20-Slide Carousels
Trial Reels let you post a Reel that only shows to people who don’t follow you. It’s basically A/B testing for content — if it performs well with strangers, you publish it to your followers. If it flops, nobody you know ever sees it. This is huge for anyone scared of posting and not getting likes. Low-risk content creation, finally.
20-minute Reels are now a thing. Up from the old 3-minute limit. You probably shouldn’t make a 20-minute Reel — but for tutorials, travel vlogs, and cricket highlights, the option exists. Think of it as YouTube-lite inside Instagram.
Carousels expanded to 20 slides. Double the old limit. Photo dumps just became photo novels. Perfect for those fashion inspo posts where 10 slides never felt like enough.
But here’s the one feature that changes the game for creators in India.
Your Instagram Posts Now Show Up on Google
This happened quietly in late 2025 and most people still don’t realise it. Public posts from professional and creator accounts are now indexed by Google Search. Your Instagram content can now appear when someone Googles a topic you posted about.
The implication — your captions matter way more than before. Hashtags alone won’t cut it. If you’re running a business, creating content, or just want more eyeballs, treat your captions like mini blog posts. Use keywords naturally. Write actual sentences. Instagram SEO is a real thing now.

Until then, you’ve got enough hidden settings to keep you busy. The app you’ve been using daily? You just met the version of it that actually tries to work for you.
